Celebrating Our August 2026 MVP

August 2026 MVP Recipient: Trí Khải – Simmonds Anh Leo

August brought us the 40 Hour Challenge, which allowed our Oanh Vũ to challenge themselves to do something hard while fundraising money for World Vision. One Oanh Vũ who absolutely shined during this challenge was Leo Simmonds. And that’s why we are excited to announce him as our August MVP!

From the very start, Leo embraced the idea of the 40 Hour Challenge with enthusiasm. He selected a very difficult challenge: choosing to go 40 hours with no technology. For most adults, going with no technology for such a period would be an absolute struggle. For a kid, this posed a near impossible challenge… And yet, with a steady plan and determined focus, Leo achieved his goal. The challenge was hard, particularly as he had to miss out on watching a Melbourne Demons footy game on the TV (he is a BIG supporter!), but he managed to see it through. At the end, he told us he could perhaps do 1000 hours without technology! Seriously impressive!

Aside from smashing the challenge itself, Leo also went above and beyond in his fundraising efforts. Not only did he make a fundraising video to share with his extended family, he also spoke to his classmates about the challenge and why he was doing it. Some of his classmates were inspired to donate their spare lunch money, which was very kind of them to do. However, what stood out to us the most was that Leo managed to inspire some of his friends to also take on the challenge of going without technology for a period of time. This goes to show that it doesn’t take a lot to inspire others to do good. All you need is someone brave and kind enough to take the first step and show the way.

Leo, we’re so proud of what you have achieved with this challenge! You showed resilience by taking the difficulties in your stride and focusing on taking things one step at a time. We know you will continue to do hard things and inspire others to do the same. Well done!

“Philanthropist” is a word that derives from the Greek words, “philos” (love) and “anthropos” (humanity). A philanthropist is someone who gives to others – whether it be money, time, expertise or influence — to promote human welfare and support lasting social change.

Every month, we take a moment to shine a spotlight on an exceptional supporter, sponsor or volunteer in recognition of their dedication to achieving our project mission and a commitment to creating a positive impact. The “MVP” award isn’t just about the numbers; it’s about exemplifying the spirit of giving from the heart.
