August 2026: 40 Hour Challenge

Between 21 – 23 August 2026, our Oanh Vũ (7 to 13-year-old members) and Huynh Trưởng (leaders) participated in the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge. For 40 hours, they challenged themselves to give up something, or do something challenging, to raise money for World Vision. World Vision is a charity who works with communities around the world to end child hunger. By going without something for 40 Hours, our Oanh Vũ hoped to understand some of the hard challenges other children experience in less fortunate parts of the world, and raise money to help them.

Our members took on a range of challenges that weekend, including: No technology, digital screens or YouTube, Cooking for themselves, Reading challenge, Cleaning challenge, No food, No bed, No shoes, No car, and No dummy (by a future Oanh Vũ member). Ahead of the event, Oanh Vũ told family and friends about their participation in the 40 Hour Challenge to raise donations. Some Oanh Vũ made videos promoting the cause, while others spoke to their classmates and inspired them to donate their spare lunch change or take on the challenge themselves.

Congratulations to our participants: Nelson Dao, Jade Duong, Adina Le, Phuong Le, Carson Nguyen, Hanh Vi Nguyen, Lisa Nguyen, Mai-Thy Nguyen, Mia Nguyen, Leo Simmonds, Jackson Tran, Maya Yakob, Chelsea and Danich.

We are all so proud of our Oanh Vũ who challenged themselves to get out of their comfort zone and do something difficult to raise awareness for a good cause. Together, we raised $3,342.10 for World Vision, exceeding our goal of $1,000. A big thank you to our generous sponsors!

Here’s what some of our Oanh Vũ had to say about the challenge:

Q. How are you preparing for the Challenge?
“Buying groceries and watching cooking tutorials” – Nelson, who took on the challenge of cooking for himself (and not eating his mum’s cooking).

Q. What have you learnt (or what has surprised you) from doing this Challenge?
“I have learnt more words” – Jade, who took on a reading challenge.

Q. How are you feeling now that the Challenge is done?
“Proud of myself” – Maya, who took on the challenge of doing household chores.

Q. Would you do this Challenge in future?
“Yes, but for 1000 hours” – Leo, who took on the challenge of using no technology.
